Follow Alice Impact Report: Adventures with Purpose

Dec 1, 2025

Over the past decade, Follow Alice has worked to ensure travel benefits both people and places. Our Impact Report 2014–2025 highlights how our adventures empower local guides, support communities, and protect the natural landscapes we visit.

Trisha manages the written content at Follow Alice and helps create well-structured, helpful travel stories and guides. She’s especially interested in destinations rich in history and natural beauty, and her goal is to give readers the confidence and insight to plan their trips. With a background in storytelling and a good eye for detail, she aims to make each piece practical and enjoyable.

Since we started, the Follow Alice community has done more than explore the world with us, you have helped shape our organisation. Every journey has made a real impact, from empowering local communities and supporting sustainable travel to protecting wildlife and preserving the destinations we all cherish.

To celebrate what we’ve achieved together, we’ve put together an Impact Report 2014–2025. It shows the real results of our adventures over the past decade, how our trips have helped empower communities, support local initiatives, and protect the destinations we visit. You’ll also find stories of resilience, collaboration, and connection, alongside a look at the steps we’re taking to keep building better futures for the people, cultures, and environments that make travel so meaningful.

Why we created the Impact report

At Follow Alice, we believe travel can create meaningful change. This report is our way of being transparent about the positive impact of our adventures, showing how every journey strengthens communities, protects nature, and promotes sustainable travel practices.

Follow Alice focus areas

At Follow Alice, our impact initiatives focus on practical action that supports the places and people we work with:

  • Environmental cleanups

We support cleanup efforts on Kilimanjaro and in surrounding communities. These projects keep trails clear, reduce waste, and involve local teams who are compensated for their time.

  • Education and training

Our guides and crews receive ongoing training in Leave No Trace principles, KPAP standards, and responsible guiding practices. Travellers are briefed on how to minimise their footprint on every trip.

  • Ethical partnerships

We work with organisations like KRTO and Leave No Trace to ensure fair porter treatment, safe working conditions, and environmentally responsible operations across our destinations.

  • Wildlife conservation

Gorilla permits, safari park fees, and visits to vetted sanctuaries directly support conservation budgets, anti-poaching units, habitat management, and wildlife rehabilitation programmes.

How travellers contribute

Sustainable travel is part of how we operate. Travellers can take part in tree-planting, community visits, and gear donations, providing practical support to schools, local projects, and community groups. Around 70 per cent of the cost of each trip stays in the local community, helping to support livelihoods and local initiatives. By focusing on responsible practices and meaningful contributions, our trips aim to benefit both the people and places we visit.

Looking ahead

We’re proud of how far we’ve come, but the journey continues. In 2025 and beyond, Follow Alice will focus on building meaningful, responsible travel experiences that benefit people, communities, and the environment. As an organisation we remain committed to creating travel experiences that are both adventurous and responsible. Be part of the impact.
