Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Climb picture-perfect Rainbow Mountain

It's an early start today as your guide drives you inland for three hours to reach the base of Rainbow Mountain (known locally as Vinicunca, or 'coloured mountain'). You begin your climb by the crater lakes, hiking for about 1.5 hours to reach the summit. You should expect to feel out of breath as you're climbing to 5,200 m (17,060 ft) above sea level! The mountain's colours are courtesy of the various minerals that have been deposited in rainbow-like ribbons. Adding to the beauty and charm of this unique site are all the resident alpacas and llamas! After the hike, you go for a cosy lunch in a nearby restaurant before heading back to Cusco.
