We require you to take out travel insurance as a condition for booking with us. Even though we run all trips with the highest possible safety standards in place, there’s always a small probability on active holidays that something can happen. Even if it’s just a sprained ankle, if you’re near the top of Mt Kilimanjaro, you’ll be glad you’re insured! And the good news is that it’s possible to obtain relatively inexpensive insurance that offers great coverage in just a couple of minutes. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
When travelling on a trip with us, we ask you for the details of your travel insurance and the insurance company’s 24-hour emergency contact number. You provide us with this information in your health and safety form. We then send the completed form to the local leader for your trip.
If you have credit card insurance, your group leader will require the following details from you:
Please contact your bank for these details. Note that your group leader has to send us this information before you head off on your trip.
When selecting a travel insurance policy, please ensure you’re covered for the following (this is the minimum requirement to travel with us):
We suggest you cover yourself with at least USD $200,000 for each of the above categories.
We also recommend that your insurance policy cover the following:
It’s a good idea to opt for trip cancellation cover so that you don’t lose your money should you have to cancel your trip unexpectedly due to illness, injury or other unforeseen circumstances. You may wish to consider obtaining a quote through our travel insurance partner (World Nomads, as introduced below), which is able to offer clients comprehensive yet affordable insurance.
Insurance companies have different policies regarding cover for Covid-19 whilst travelling. Please ensure you check the details relating to Covid-19 with your insurance provider. It’s important to have a policy that adequately addresses the virus.
When climbing Kilimanjaro, you need special cover for high-altitude trekking. You should ensure your policy covers you for “hiking up to 6,000 m above sea level”. This clause must be in your policy, otherwise you won’t be covered for any accidents that may occur whilst on the mountain. Please note that it’s your responsibility to ensure your policy includes this clause.
We at Follow Alice personally always take out travel insurance with World Nomads. Travel insurance from World Nomads is available to people from over 130 countries. It’s designed for adventurous travellers, and as such offers cover for overseas medical expenses, evacuation, lost baggage, and a range of adventurous sporting and other activities.
