Travel Insurance

We strongly advise all of our clients to purchase travel insurance at the time of booking your trip with us.

Please note that without travel insurance you would be responsible for any and all costs arising from any cancellation, rerouting or rescheduling of your trip or from any emergency (medical or other) that may arise during your travels. Though no one plans to cancel a trip when it's booked, life happens.

Some of the common reasons that force folks to change their travel plans are:

  • Loss of employment
  • Missed, delayed or cancelled flights
  • Lost or delayed luggage
  • Illness or injury, before or during your trip
  • Death in the family
  • Pregnancy
  • Civil unrest
  • War and terrorism
  • An epidemic
  • Forces of nature

Travel insurance covers expenses if you need to cancel your trip for a covered reason. Additionally, If you get sick or suffer an injury while traveling, emergency medical coverage can cover thousands of dollars in unexpected charges.

When travel insurance is mandatory

Please note that travel insurance is mandatory if you're going to do one of the following Follow Alice trips:

  • Climb Kilimanjaro
  • Hike or trek in Nepal
  • Hike or trek in Uganda

Please also note that you need special cover for high-altitude trekking. More specifically, you need to purchase a policy that covers you for the maximum altitude you will reach. For Kilimanjaro, for instance, you need a policy that covers you for climbing up to 6,000 m above sea level (because Uhuru Peak is 5,895 m). Please note that itโ€™s your responsibility to ensure your policy includes the correct clause.

Your travel insurance must also provide cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses and emergency repatriation. We recommend a minimum coverage of US$200,000 for each of the above categories of cover.

We also recommend that you choose a policy that covers cancellation, curtailment, personal liability, and loss of luggage and personal effects.

Provide your insurance details

When travelling on a trip with us, we ask that you please send us the details of your travel insurance policy as well as the insurance companyโ€™s 24-hour emergency contact number. You're asked to provide us with this information in your health and safety questionnaire which we send to you before the trip. When we receive it from you, we forward it to the local leader for your trip.

If you have credit card insurance, your group leader is going to require the following details from you:

  • the participating insurer or underwriter
  • your level of coverage
  • your policy number
  • the emergency contact number

Please contact your bank for these details.

Again, this information must please be included in your health and safety questionnaire which you email to us before embarking on your trip.
