Travel Insurance

We strongly advise to purchase travel insurance at the time of booking your trip with us. Please note, that without such travel insurance, you will be responsible for all costs arising from any cancellation, re-routing or rescheduling of your trip or any emergency (medical or other) that may arise during your travels. Though no one plans to cancel a trip when it is booked, things do happen that force a person to reconsider their travel. Here are a few examples:

  • Loss of employment
  • Missed, delayed, and canceled flights
  • Lost or delayed luggage
  • Illness or injury, before or during your trip
  • Death in the family
  • Pregnancy
  • Civil unrest
  • War & terrorism
  • Epidemic
  • Forces of nature
  • Government policy changes

Travel insurance covers expenses if you need to cancel your trip for a covered reason. Additionally, If you get sick or suffer an injury while traveling, emergency medical coverage can cover thousands of dollars in unexpected charges.

Travel insurance is mandatory for all our travellers on the following trips:

  • All Kilimanjaro climbs
  • All trekking/hiking in Nepal (e.g. Annapurna Circuit, Everest Base Camp etc.)
  • All multi-day trekking/hiking in Uganda (e.g. Rwenzori treks)

For those trips you need special cover for high-altitude trekking. You must ensure your policy covers you for hiking up to the maximum altitude of your trek. For instance for Kilimanjaro it needs to cover you for up to 6'000m above sea level. Please note that it’s your responsibility to ensure your policy includes the correct clause.

Your travel insurance must provide cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses and emergency repatriation with a recommended minimum coverage of US$200,000 for each of the categories of cover. We also recommend it covers cancellation, curtailment, personal liability and loss of luggage and personal effects.

Provide your insurance details

When travelling on a trip with us, we ask you for the details of your travel insurance and the insurance company’s 24-hour emergency contact number. You provide us with this information in your health and safety questionnaire that is sent to you before the trip. We then send the completed form to the local leader for your trip. If you have credit card insurance, your group leader will require the following details from you:

  • the participating insurer or underwriter
  • your level of coverage
  • your policy number
  • the emergency contact number

Please contact your bank for these details.

Travel insurance for covid-19 related issues

Travel insurances started offering policies that protect you from any covid-19 related issues or some offer "cancel for any reason" policies. Also, certain airlines started offering complementary insurance that covers against any covid-19 related disruptions when booking your flight. We strongly recommend to get insurance that covers you for any covid-19 related illness during the trip and any interruption to your trip due to the coronavirus (SARS-CoV).
