We’re all about adventure trips at Follow Alice. If our inner Alice wants to lead us on a high-altitude trek in Nepal, we’re there! If she wants to go on safari and see the Great Migration, we’re there. Or if she wants to learn to fish on a stilt, find gorillas in the mist, hike up to a mountainside temple, twist and turn her way down a snowy mountain, or climb her way to the highest point in Africa … we’re there, we’re there, we’re there! Adventure is waiting for anyone brave enough to grab hold of it, and we have no intentions of standing on the sidelines. How about you?
At Follow Alice we offer a handful of specialised trips to some of the most exciting, beautiful and varied places in the world. Our flagship trip is the Kilimanjaro climb, an adventure we find to be wonderfully challenging and immensely rewarding. We also offer high-altitude trekking in Nepal, where you can choose between the Annapurna circuit and the Everest Base Camp trek. If you’re keen for a less taxing adventure, we offer gorilla trekking in Uganda and an exciting Tanzania safari. Not forgetting Europe, we have a stellar Switzerland ski weekend on offer. And heading east, we also offer a trip to Sri Lanka and one to Bhutan that offer a mix of adventure and cultural exploration.
We’ve been hosting Kilimanjaro climbs for years now, but we never grow tired of spending time on this beautiful mountain! Kilimanjaro rises from the plains of Africa to be the world’s tallest free-standing mountain. Climbing Kilimanjaro is a challenging trek that sees you climb all the way up to 5,895 m above sea level! You take on the trek in a group, led and supported by a crew of locals who encourage and look after you all the way. Everyone who treks Kilimanjaro comes away having learned more about themselves, nature, determination, and the value of team. We cannot recommend it highly enough!
There’s nowhere better for epic, high-altitude adventure than Nepal! This mountainous country has some of the world’s highest mountains, including, of course, Mt Everest. At Follow Alice we lead teams on both the Annapurna circuit and the Everest Base Camp treks. These are two very different treks, though both will test your strength and commitment and grit. The Annapurna circuit is a circular trek route through the Himalayas of central Nepal. It exposes you to various people group and religions, as well as incredibly varied and beautiful landscapes. The Everest Base Camp trek takes you through the land of the Sherpa people. It’s a gorgeous land of steep valleys, forests, glaciers, and staggering peaks.
Bhutan is cropping up on everyone’s travel agenda of late, and we understand why. This small, unpolluted and sparsely populated country has an outsized proportion of beauty, culture and history to share! We love to take visitors to see awe-inspiring sights like Tiger’s Nest (the postcard monastery perched on the side of a mountain) and Punakha Dzong (a centuries-old fortified monastery that sits at the confluence of two rivers). We also enjoy amping up the adventure by taking on activities like cycling through the countryside and white-water rafting on Mo Chhu River. Bhutan is a nation like no other, and one that’s charting a unique course in the world. Join us in learning more about this special parcel of land tucked up against the mighty Himalayas.
Sri Lanka is a gorgeous island nation that has so much to offer in terms of history, culture, art, cuisine, architecture, nature and outdoors adventure activities. At Follow Alice we like to try get a feel for it all on our Gems of Sri Lanka tour. Case in point, we climb the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya, visit the Dambulla Cave temples, and climb Adam’s Peak in the company of pilgrims. We also get the wind in our hair when we head out in boats to whale and dolphin watch, try our hand at kite surfing, and join local stilt fishermen to see how they balance and fish. And we didn’t even mention that we go on safari, explore the beautiful city of Kandy, hit the rapids in inflatable rafts, and so much more!
Every self-respecting adventurer and ecotourist of the twenty-first century knows about and has set their sights on gorilla trekking! A gorilla trek sees you hike into the forest to find and observe a gorilla troop in its natural habitat. It’s an incredible adventure, allowing you to be among the relatively few privileged enough to see these endangered animals. At Follow Alice we lead gorilla trekking tours in Uganda, the Pearl of Africa. We not only take guests gorilla trekking, but also show you other beautiful spots like Murchison Falls. And we offer plenty of adventure activities too, like rafting, a bicycling safari, chimpanzee trekking and a boat safari.
Tanzania sets the benchmark for African safaris. This fertile land plays host to the Big Five as well as those other iconic African animals like zebras, giraffes and hippos. Its flagship reserve is the Serengeti National Park, where one can witness the spectacle of the Great Wildebeest Migration. Other fantastic parks include Ngorongoro Crater (a massive collapsed volcano now inhabited by diverse wildlife) and Lake Manyara National Park (a lush park renowned for its tree-climbing lions and large elephant herds).
